Kim Chiu : The Chinita Cutie



The first winner of the Pinoy Big Brother: Teen Edition Edition Kimberly Sue Yap Chiu, popularly known as  , was born in April 19, 1990 in Tacloban City. Joining the reality show paved the way to her stardom where Kim is a current member of Star Magic, ABS-CBN’s talent center.

Representing Cebu, at age 16, Kim entered the Big Brother house together with 13 other housemates in April 23, 2006. Being the only housemate who never received a single nomination for eviction, she hauled 41.4% of the total votes to win the reality show after 42 days. The grand winner announcement was held at Aliw Theater.
Together with her housemate, Gerald Anderson, they both appeared in some shows with ABS-CBS after six months. Their first film together was the First Day High, an adaptation of the Rexona TV commercial. They also starred the movies Love Spell and Aalog-alog.
Doing the lead roles in I’ve Fallen for You in 2007, Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson had their solo film, which was a top grosser of Star Cinema. During the same year, they both starred in Sana Maulit Muli, one of the ABS-CBN’s primetime drama series. Kim was also casted in the adaptation of Korean series, My Girl.

The year 2009, marked as a fruitful year for the chinita cutie. Her role in Tayong Dalawa, gave her the Best Actress in a Daily Soap Opera during the 6th USTv Awards. She was also the winner for German Moreno Youth Achievement at the 57th FAMAS Award and was part of the movie I Love You, Goodbye, the official entry of Star Cinema to the 2009 Metro Manila Film Festival.

The following year in 2010 was a busy schedule for primetime series Kung Tayo’y Magkakalayo. Kim and Gerald starred in Paano Na Kaya and Till My Heartaches End.

The comeback drama series, My Binondo Girl, is the Kim’s first television primetime series without Gerald. Nonetheless, she is currently have three leading men, Xian Lim, Jolo Revilla  and Matteo Guidicelli.
One of the latest upcoming movies will be a horror film with the Star for All Season, Vilma Santos.
Kim Chiu has been regular cast of the ASAP family since 2006. Since her TV career started, she has been nominated for several acting awards:
  • Best Actress in a Drama Series, 2nd NSSU Visual Media Awards, Kung Tayo’y Magkakalayo
  • Best Actress, Studio 23 The Wrap Choice Awards, Till My Heartaches End
  • Princess of Philippine Movies and TV, 2010 GMMSF 41st Box Office Entertainment Awards
